In the Garden

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear,
Falling on my ear;
The Son of God discloses.

And he walks with me, and he talks with me,

About this reading
C. Austin Miles, an editor for the Hall-Mack music company in Philadelphia, wrote the words and the music in 1912, and they were printed that year in The Gospel Message No. 2. By his own account he wrote the song after reading the twentieth chapter of John, where Mary Magdalene meets the risen Jesus.
The three verses and the chorus, as first printed in 1912, where "he" and "his" for Jesus are set in small letters. Later hymnals capitalize them.
