Rosa Delgado

Rosa María Delgado taught the third grade at Mill Lane Elementary for thirty-one years, which means that a large part of this town learned to read at her table. She kept every class photograph, and could name every child in them.

She married Tomás in 1966 and together they planted the orchard where we gather today, one tree for each child and then one for each grandchild, until they ran out of room and started on the neighbors' land with permission. Her kitchen was never closed and her garden was never finished.

She is survived by Tomás, her six children, nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and by the fig tree we plant today. She asked for a party, not a service, and for everyone to take a jar of something home.
